Power outages from ice storm linger in northern NY

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (AP) Several thousand utility customers in northern New York may have to do without holiday lights on the night before Christmas thanks to last weekend's ice storm.

National Grid reports more than 6,200 homes and businesses remain without power on Christmas Eve morning. About 4,000 of the outages are in Jefferson County, with another 1,400 reported in neighboring St. Lawrence County.  Go to full article

Commentary: celebrating the spirit of the season

Richard Rubin loves Christmas -- which is a little odd -- because he's Jewish. He doesn't actually celebrate the holiday. But, he says, you don't have to celebrate Christmas to enjoy it. He loves the spirit of the season, and the food and drink, and all the goofy TV specials, even that Mr. Magoo version of "A Christmas Carol." But what he absolutely loves most of all about Christmas are the lights.  Go to full article
