Jul 21, 2005 — Critics trying to stop the construction of a chipboard plant in St. Lawrence County were dealt a major blow in court last week. A State Supreme Court Judge threw out a lawsuit regarding the plant's air pollution permit. Mar 07, 2005 — Lisbon residents are one step closer to seeing a new chipboard manufacturing plant in their town. A Canadian lumber company announced it intends to build the plant. They would purchase the rights from Chatham Forest, which won its permit last December, after a 5-year battle with environmental groups.  Go to full article

Jun 15, 2004 — A planned chipboard factory in St. Lawrence County that would employ more than 100 people remains stalled in court cases. A federal appeals court ruled recently that people who live near the site could continue a lawsuit seeking tighter pollution controls. The ruling reversed a lower court's decision. Joining together readers of different levels, the Literacy and Theatre Project at St. Lawrence University is designed to help teens increase their motivation, confidence and creativity.
