Apr 21, 2004 — The southern Adirondack hamlet of Boonville is struggling to absorb news that its largest private employer is closing. Ethan Allen Interiors announced Monday it will close its furniture-making plant in Boonville in June. 260 people will lose their jobs. David Ernst is Boonville's mayor. Mar 23, 2004 — There's been promising news for some idled factories across the North Country. Last week an Ottawa-based company announced it will make soy milk concentrates and powders in the former McCadam cheese plant in Heuvelton. A Fulton County man may buy the idled Lyons Falls paper mill in Lewis County. A Syracuse-based jet manufacturer is considering a massive expansion at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base that could create 10,000 jobs. Jan 10, 2001 — With the U.S. economy slowing, Governor Pataki's projections of an economic rebound for Upstate New York may be hasty. But there was good news for the North Country yesterday when southern-tier based Corning Incorporated announced it will expand its plant in Canton. The investment is expected to bring 125 new jobs to St. Lawrence County over the next three years.
