McCall Impresses St. Lawrence County Dems

State comptroller and Democratic candidate for Governor Carl McCall made his first campaign swing through St. Lawrence County on Friday. He impressed party faithful with his fiscal experience and his stance on education. Strong winds forced McCall's airplane to abandon a planned stop in Hamilton County. MRSI Airport Survey

Nearly 70 percent of participant in a recent survey indicated they would be more likely to use air service from Ogdensburg and Massena, if the destination hub was changed from Pittsburgh to Albany. Massena GM Dump Waiting for Cleanup: 20 Years and Counting

In 1983, the federal government delcared the land and water around GM's factory along the St. Lawrence river a Superfund Site. Cancer-causing PCBs were seeping into the earth and the river. The action identified the site as a top priority for clean-up. Almost twenty years later, the toxic landfill is still there.
