Mixed Reactions to War in North Country

Local reactions to the start of war were mixed. Some people wore American flag shirts or hats to show their patriotism. Other joined quiet "peace circles" last night in Canton, Saranac Lake, and Watertown. Ice Fishing on the St. Lawrence

The long, cold winter has made for an extra long, if frigid, season for the St. Lawrence River's many ice fishermen. Saturday is the last day of the season on the river. So before the ice shanties came down, David Sommerstein hiked out to the windswept bays to see how the catch has been.  Go to full article

Thousands Rally, March Against War in Iraq

Tens of thousands of anti-war demonstrators picketed the White House Saturday over President Bush's Iraq policy. The protest coincided with anti-war protests from Maine to California and across the globe. Rockin' at the Green

High school musicians usually get a chance to perform for an audience at school jazz band or orchestra concerts. But aside from parties and the occasional high school dance, there are few opportunities for young rock musicians to test their licks in public. For 7 years now, the Norwood Village Green concert series has provided an outlet for high school bands to rock out. Meet the Masters: Norwood Brass Firemen, Community Brass Band

The Volunteer Fire Department Band of Norwood (more familiar to many as the Norwood Brass Firemen) dates back to the late nineteenth century. Varying over the years from eight to twenty four members, they have played at everything from local celebrations to presidential inaugurations and the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia.  Go to full article
