LP Film Forum opens with Buster Keaton and Barker's organ

The Lake Placid Film Forum opened last night at the Palace Theater, with a showing of Buster Keaton's classic silent film The Cameraman. Renowned cinema organist Jeffrey Barker, a Film Forum favorite, performed. Here's a taste of last night's musical accompaniment for the film. The Film Forum continues this evening with an exclusive screening of Steve Buscemi's new film The Interview. After the movie, Brian Mann will interview Buscemi on stage at the Palace. Buschemi has starred in classic films like Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and Charlotte's Web. He also appeared regularly on The Sopranos. Tonight's event begins at 6:30 pm at Lake Placid's Palace Theater.  Go to full article

Interview: American Tragedy Composer Tobias Picker

The opera version of American Tragedy premiers tonight in New York City. The score was written by composer Tobias Picker. Picker sat down last week with Brian Mann to talk about the project. Picker spent time researching the story in the Adiorondacks. He says Theodore Dreiser's classic novel is still contemporary, in part because of its attention to the tension between evangelical Christianity and American capitalism.  Go to full article
