All told, there will be more than 50 garden plots available in Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh forum on urban chickens
Plattsburgh, NY, Apr 06, 2011 — A group of Plattsburgh residents interested in keeping a limited number of backyard hens will hold a public forum next Tuesday night to the discuss the pros and cons of raising urban chickens. Some of their reasons for keeping chickens in the city include fresh eggs, a source of organic garden compost and gaining a closer relationship to the food they eat. It's illegal in the City of Plattsburgh to raise livestock, including chickens. But cities throughout the state, including Buffalo, Rochester, Saratoga Springs and New York City allow residents to raise chickens in their backyards. Laurentian set to break ground, promising hundreds of new jobs for Plattsburgh
Plattsburgh, NY, Mar 02, 2011 — A Canadian firm called Laurentian Aerospace says it has locked in the financing needed to go forward with a massive new project in Plattsburgh. The company plans to build a refurbishment and maintenance facility that will service the commercial airline industry at Plattsburgh's airport, site of the former Air Force base. Pieces fall into place for Laurentian and Plattsburgh
Plattsburgh, NY, Dec 13, 2010 — A company called Laurentian Aerospace says it is ready to move forward with a project in Plattsburgh that would bring roughly 900 high-paying jobs to the city. The company announced on Friday that after years of effort, it had found a major investor, Verdant Capital Group, willing to back the 175-million dollar venture.

Boosters seek to push 'rooftop highway' ahead
Massena, NY, Dec 07, 2010 — The concept of an Interstate connecting Watertown and Plattsburgh has been the holy grail of North Country economic developers for decades. It's been so long, the so-called "rooftop highway" can seem more legend than reality.
Supporters are fighting hard to push the project into the reality column. They're calling it by a new name - Interstate 98. And they're urging the state Department of Transportation to begin an environmental review of the project. That would mean charting a precise path for the road. And it would mean studying impacts on wetlands and forests, birds and other animals, and people's homes and properties.
But the DOT isn't on board. It doesn't think an Interstate is needed to begin with. David Sommerstein reports. Go to full article

Plattsburgh celebrates International Education Week
Plattsburgh, NY, Nov 18, 2010 — SUNY-Plattsburgh is celebrating its annual International Education Week. Activities include lectures, music, films, literature and food. The week culminates with the "Night of Nations" event on Saturday night. Evan Mills, International Student Advisor at SUNY Plattsburgh, tells Todd Moe that the events help foreign students share their cultures with the local community. It's also part of Plattsburgh's long tradition as an international gateway for trade, immigrants, visitors and ideas. Mills says the school has a large international student body. Go to full article
Owens slips past Doheny in NY-23
Watertown, NY, Nov 03, 2010 — One of the few bright lights for Democrats last night was the re-election of Congressman Bill Owens over Republican businessman Matt Doheny in the 23rd district. After last year's special election, Owens earned his first full term by a slim 51 to 49% margin over Doheny. But it was conservative and erstwhile Tea Partier Doug Hoffman whose 6% showing that may have decided the race. David Sommerstein has our report. Go to full article
