Aug 14, 2012 — Many Adirondack artists will tell you that our region offers nearly all the elements a landscape painter looks for - mountains, trees, waterways and ever-changing hues of green, gray and blue. You'll find dozens of artists outdoors this week in the Adirondacks painting "plein air" during Saranac Lake's Fourth Annual Plein Air Festival, part of the "Great Adirondack Days" celebration.

It's a time-honored tradition, particularly by artists who want to convey a sense of immediacy. They'll find a spot with a great view of a mountain or along a stream, prop up an easel and paint just as they see it. Most works are completed within hours on the spot. Spontaneity is key. Bugs, rain and fleeting sunlight are challenges.

Lake George, NY, Jul 28, 2011 — A group of actors in Lake George will commemorate the region's historical significance during the French and Indian War this summer. "The Last of the Mohicans Outdoor Drama" returns for a second season starting Friday night. It's theater under the stars and an original adaptation of James Fenimore Cooper's novel, Last of the Mohicans. Aug 11, 2010 — Artists from Clayton to Clinton County are enjoying the outdoors with paint brush and easel this summer. "Plein Air" is a French expression which means "in the open air", and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors. South Glens Falls, NY, Jan 26, 2010 — A new exhibit at the Hyde Collection art museum in Glens Falls explores American Impressionism. The "Enduring Legacy" exhibit includes 64 paintings from the private collection of Saratoga County resident Thomas Clark. His collection is considered one of the finest of this genre in upstate New York. The show is up through March 28.
