Magic, charm in new teen novel

Many of us read The Secret Garden when we were kids. Children's author Ellen Potter takes that story and sets it in the Thousand Islands in her new book The Humming Room. Preview: "Arsenic and Old Lace" in North Creek

The Our Town Theatre Group kicks off its 15th season with the classic comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace this weekend. Performances are at the Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek Friday and Saturday nights (7:30) and Sunday afternoon (2 pm). The show features more than a dozen local actors. Todd Moe spoke with director Eric Potter who says the play tells the story of the Brewster family and their freinds and neighbors. The story introduces the audience to Aunt Abby and Aunt Martha Brewster who share their kindness and cooking with everyone they meet.  Go to full article

The joys and challenges of writing for kids

As a child, writer Ellen Potter says New York City was the background for her earliest stories. It still is. Potter lives in Stone Mills, near Watertown. Her books include the award winning series, Olivia Kidney, Pish Posh and her newest novel, Slob. Waiting for Harry at "Wild Magic" camp

Friday night, Harry Potter fans all over the North Country were waiting for the release of Book Seven: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In Shelburne, Vermont some very lucky kids spent all last week gathered at a special day camp designed to look and feel like Hogwarts Academy. As they waited for the big moment, there were chocolate frogs and specially-made wands and, of course, a Defense Against the Dark Arts Class.
