Demonstrators, police clash at governors' conference in Burlington
Burlington, VT, Jul 30, 2012 — A peaceful protest in Burlington turned violent late yesterday afternoon when demonstrators clashed with police. Approximately 500 protestors took the streets downtown to protest the 36th annual New England Governors conference. While New England governors and eastern Canadian premiers met at the waterfront Hilton Hotel to discuss energy policy, protestors demonstrated outside, voicing their opposition to a proposed pipeline across northern New England that would ship Tar Sands oil to Portland, Maine. In Montreal, student protests target Quebec's Liberal government
Montreal, QC, May 30, 2012 — Massive demonstrations in the city of Montreal have continued for more than a hundred straight days.
The protest began when Quebec's Liberal Party tried to hike tuition rates for college students. But the sometimes violent street rallies have exploded into a much wider debate in French Canada over civil liberties and the future of popular social programs.

Budget protesters plan camp-in in Albany
Albany, NY, Mar 30, 2011 — Teachers, public workers, renters, health care advocates and college students are packing sleeping bags and toothbrushes in preparation for a massive protest of state budget cuts at the Capitol. The demonstrators from various groups across the state plan an overnight camp-in starting this afternoon to protest Governor Andrew Cuomo's plan to close a $10 billion budget gap with cuts in education and health care spending and state worker layoffs. Organizers expect up to 1,000 people to participate in a variety of events.
