Kingston building fire prompts evacuation, helicopter rescue

KINGSTON, Ont. A number of Kingston residents hope to return home today after being evacuated due to a massive fire.

The blaze broke out yesterday afternoon in an apartment building under construction and trapped a crane operator high above the blaze for more than an hour. A military helicopter crew rescued the man from his perch and police say he suffered only minor injuries.  Go to full article

OPP: Ice not yet safe for recreational vehicles

The OPP and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs are reminding snowmobilers that no ice can be considered safe to ride on with a snowmobile.

They say this is especially true this winter when ice is forming earlier than usual in many areas and may look safe, but is not yet thick or strong enough.  Go to full article

NY expected to get snow, ice from storm system

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Police agencies are advising commuters to allow some extra time as a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing drizzle spreads across upstate New York.

The National Weather Service has posted winter weather advisories from Buffalo through Albany area and south throughout the Hudson Valley through Monday morning.  Go to full article
