Opening weekend planned at Saratoga race track

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) A music festival and 23rd annual fancy hat contest are planned as part of the opening weekend activities at Saratoga Race Course.

Competition in the hat contest takes place next Sunday after the second, third and fourth races, with contestants parading in front of judges on the track apron.  Go to full article

Photo Essay: Glens Falls All-American Soap Box Derby

Akron Ohio is the Mecca of soap box derby racers and references to "going to Akron" was heard often on the Murray Street hill in Glens Falls this past Saturday. Since being revived 11 years ago after an absence of several decades, the Glens Falls All-American Soap Box Derby has an enthusiastic following. Volunteers were setting up the course by 7 in the morning and by 9:00 about 24 competitors took to the Murray Street hill course. By 3:00 in the afternoon two winners were set to "go to Akron".

Bidders reveal racing proposals

Lewis County Speedway Deal Under Investigation

State officials are looking into whether Lewis County properly transferred $500,000 of highway funds to an auto racetrack near Lowville. The speedway's owner was a large contributor to Governor Pataki's re-election campaign in 2002. David Sommerstein reports.  Go to full article
