An expert eye for finding fakes

How does a museum determine an original work of art from a fake? At the Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg, part of curator Laura Foster's job is to make sure Frederic Remington's legacy and reputation are secure.

Laura Foster recently gave Todd Moe a tour of the vault in the lower level of the museum in Ogdensburg--not a stop on the usual guided tours of the Remington. It's where the museum stores original art when not on public display. It's also a place for research, a starting point where art sleuths will find resources for determining if a Remington work is the real deal.  Go to full article

New art and old favorites to celebrate Remington's 150th

The Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg is celebrating Remington's 150th birthday this season with three exhibits. October 4 is Remington's actual birthday, but the new exhibits are open this weekend.

Todd Moe walked through the exhibits with curator Laura Foster, starting with the "Fred and Friends" display, filled with new art inspired by a Remington work in the museum's collection.  Go to full article

Preview: Remington Arts Festival

NCPR is media sponsor for the 9th annual Remington Arts Festival in downtown Canton. The event begins Friday night and continues throughout Saturday with a focus on Frederic Remington, art, history and culture. It includes an art sale on the village green, 5K run, music, children's games and horse-drawn carriage tours of the village with stops at significant historical landmarks from Remington's life. NCPR is media sponsor for the 8th annual Remington Arts Festival in Canton this weekend. The event celebrates local art and pays tribute to native son Frederic Remington. Special exhibits and events around the village will include a juried art show in the park, quilt display, games for kids, historic tours and music. Todd Moe talks with David Katz of the Northern Lights Orchestra. The ensemble will present a series of concerts that showcase both music that Remington might have heard during his lifetime, and music by North Country composers.  Go to full article

Preview: Remington's 2005 International Juried Art Show

The works of 14 artists from across the region are on display at the Frederic Remington Museum in Ogdensburg. The 2005 International Juried Art Exhibit includes paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures. Todd Moe talks with Remington curator Laura Foster and Canton artist and printmaker Roger Bailey about the show. Bailey culled through 178 images from 63 artists.
