Still "do-si-doing" after all these years
Oct 24, 2012 — A local square dancing tradition in Schroon Lake continues to draw hundreds of particpants. Since the 1930s, it's been a weekly social event in July and August. TAUNY gave the dance organizers a 2012 North Country Heritage Award on Sunday.
Todd Moe talks with musician Ed Lowman, coordinator of the Schroon Lake Square Dances. He's a fiddler who has helped lead the dances since 1979. Lowman says the dance steps and tunes vary from week to week. At a time when square dancing has decreased in popularity in some parts of the country, he's excited to see young families, seniors and even teens turning out to "do-si-do". Go to full article

APA set to approve new I-87 "frankenpine" cell tower; safety cited as priority
May 09, 2008 — The Adirondack Park Agency is expected to approve another Verizon cell phone tower today along the Northway, closing a gap in service near Schroon Lake. The APA will also wrestle with a proposal to build a hotel on the shore of Raquette Lake. Brian Mann reports. Go to full article

Jun 13, 2007 — Lueza Thirkield Gelb was born in New Jersey, in the first part of the twentieth century, two years after the stock market crash, and grew up in the Adirondacks before and during World War II. Red Cross Volunteers Shelter Thousands

Jul 22, 2003 — For nearly 90 years, the Seagle Music Colony in the eastern Adirondacks has offered talented young singers a secluded summer haven to polish their skills. The seven-week music camp offers intensive training with music theater professionals and opportunities to appear in six Broadway-type productions, from Gershwin to Mozart. For decades, most of the Seagle Colony's shows have been presented in a simple barn theatre tucked away in the wooded hills above Schroon Lake. Todd Moe visited the opera camp last summer. Seagle Colony Breaks Ground for New Space
May 15, 2003 — The Seagle Music Colony in Schroon Lake breaks ground on a new building Friday afternoon. Since 1915, the Seagle Colony has offered talented young singers a secluded summer haven to polish their skills. The new studio building will provide more space for rehearsals, costumes and set construction. Woods has been General and Artistic Manager of the Seagle Music Colony in Schroon Lake. In the last few years, student applications to the prestigious camp have increased and productions are playing to packed houses.
