(06/18/07) State and local police rushed to the scene of a fatal shooting on Rt. 56 about a mile north of Potsdam shortly after 4 this afternoon. According to St. Lawrence County District Attorney Nicole Duve, a trooper who was shot in the shoulder while investigating a domestic disturbance returned fire and killed her assailant. Troopers at the roadblock near the scene confirm that a man is dead, and a female trooper was shot and airlifted to a Burlington Hospital. The trooper's name and condition have not been not released.

Duve told WWNY-TV the trooper was confronted by a man with a shotgun as she responded to a report of a domestic dispute. The man shot her, the trooper returned fire, killing the man. The man's name was not released. The incident happened around 4:20 pm. Neighbors near the scene were told to leave the area shortly before 4:30.

(04/30/07) In the aftermath of the firefight that killed trooper David Brinkerhoff and Travis Trim, attention focused on a lost arrest warrant issued for Trim in December in St. Lawrence County. Trim was placed on probation after a misdemeanor conviction in 2005.
Last fall, he allegedly violated probation by drinking and using drugs. An arrest warrant was issued December 29th, but it never reached local, county or state police.
Friday, county Probation Director Francine Perretta told Jonathan Brown no one knows what happened to the warrant.
She said the state division of probation and correctional alternatives will be in the county this week to investigate.

(04/27/07) The state trooper killed Wednesday in the search for 23-year-old fugitive Travis Trim may have died from friendly fire, according to a state police spokesman.
Trim holed up inside a house in the Catskill Mountains a day after allegedly shooting and wounding another trooper.
David Brinkerhoff was in the middle of what authorities now describe as a chaotic fire fight outside the house and a bullet from a colleague's gun may be responsible for the trooper's death.
Questions - and blame - are swirling over the arrest warrant issued in December for Trim.
After being convicted in 2005 of misdemeanor charges for petit larceny, Trim violated his probation by allegedly drinking and using drugs.
St Lawrence County Probation Director Francine Perretta says no one knows where the warrant went, but it never made it to police.
Jonathan Brown asked her if this case will change the way the county handles warrants.
