Sports Bob: Mini-"Olympic Village" comes to Canton with NYS Track and Field Meet; 1000s expected next weekend

Thousands of very speedy high school students and their friends and families converge on Canton next weekend. The New York State Track and Field Championships will take place at St Lawrence University. The university built a state of the art complex in part to attract events like these. This is the first time Section 10 has hosted the state meet.

Heard Up North: He Came, He Ran, He Conquered

Marathon runners gathered in Canton on Saturday for the third annual Canton-St Lawrence University Race weekend. And the runner who had come from farthest away was also the winner. Lake Placid to Host 2007 Women's Frozen Four

Lake Placid will host the 2007 NCAA women's hockey championships. The annual Frozen Four competition - the final four of the women's college hockey world - will be at the Herb Brooks Arena. The Olympic Regional Development Authority is partnering with St. Lawrence University to host the event. Margie Strait is director of athletics at St. Lawrence. She says it's one of a number of national events the college has hosted in recent years.  Go to full article

SLU Student Fights for Loans

Haddie White is a junior at St. Lawrence University. She spent much of this week in the student union, behind a table of literature and sample letters to legislators about the proposed cuts to financial aid. St. Lawrence University Students Test Themselves Against a Mountain

Last month, a group of students from St. Lawrence University traveled to central Mexico. They were hoping to scale Orizaba - the third highest peak in North America. The week-long expedition gave the students a chance to climb into thin air. For many of the students, it was also a first chance to explore a different culture. Brian Mann went along on the trip.
