Update: APA Chief Resigns After Computer Scandal

UPDATE: The head of the Adirondack Park Agency resigned Friday after being accused of using his office computer to download and share images of nude women. Dan Fitts submitted his resignation following two stormy days of meetings in Speculator. The APA board was considering disciplinary action. Four other employees were accused by the state Inpsector General's office of using government computers to download and share "improper" photos of women. It's unclear whether they will be reprimanded. Fitts, who lives in Lake Placid, has led the Agency as executive director for ten years. A Floatplane Flock Gathers In Speculator

Dozens of floatplanes from all over the country flocked to Speculator this weekend for the Federal Aviation Administration's annual floatplane safety seminar. The gathering is meant to offer pilots new training and information. But it's also a chance for floatplane hobbyists to show off their lovingly restored planes and to test their skills on the water. It's possible to grow up--and grow old--in a North Country town, never quite noticing its treasures. Paul Wilbur was raised in Speculator, in the woods and bogs along the Sacandaga River. At the age of seventy, he volunteered to lead construction of a community park and a nature trail. The project reconnected him with his community and with his own history. Brian Mann spent a morning with Paul Wilbur and sends this audio postcard.

Directions to the Sacandaga River Community Park: Take Rt. 30 to the four corners in Speculator. South of the intersection, look for the Lemon Tree restaraunt. Across the road, you'll see the community recreation area and the park entrance.  Go to full article

Outdoor Accident: Two Die in Adirondacks

Authorities say two people died over the weekend in the Adirondacks. The separate incidents involved a snowmobile accident near Speculator and a hiker who fell ill in the High Peaks. Brian Mann has details.  Go to full article
