Dec 02, 2002 — The St. Lawrence County Environmental Management Council took home a first place award for its Map of All Seasons, during a recent state conference on the environment. Jon Montan, with the county planning office, is an advisor to the environmental council. He says a new computer program helped update the old county map.  Go to full article

Nov 28, 2002 — Habitat For Humanity is a not-for-profit organization known for building affordable housing for low-income families. The Raquette Valley Habitat For Humanity chapter is taking the model a step further. It is building an affordable home in the town of Rensselaer Falls in St. Lawrence County that uses 30% less energy than a conventional home. David Sommerstein visited the construction site and has a sound portrait.

Nov 06, 2002 — The Democratic controlled Assembly in Albany created two new districts this year in the western part of the North Country, the 118th and 122nd Assembly districts. They stitched Democratic pockets in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties into one of the districts, hoping to send a North Country Democrat to Albany for the first time in almost 30 years. Nov 06, 2002 — Political newcomer, Tedra Cobb, Democratic candidate for Legislator in St. Lawrence County, unseated longtime Republican incumbent, Jon Greenwood. Oct 17, 2002 — With under three weeks to Election Day, the 118th Assembly, or "river," district race looks to be among the closest in the North Country. Democrat Darryl Aubertine, a dairy farmer and former Jefferson County legislator, faces Republican St. Lawrence County Clerk Patricia Ritchie. If he wins, Aubertine will be the first North Country Democrat in Albany in almost 30 years. Meanwhile, a third candidate is trying to widen the debate beyond the two major parties.
