Newton Falls Paper Mill Reopens: Economic Victory For St. Lawrence County

A Canadian company will spend more than twenty million dollars refurbishing the paper mill in Newton Falls. The plan--which will mean roughly 120 job--was unveiled Sunday at a ceremony in the village. The economy in southern St. Lawrence County was devastated three years ago when the Newton Falls mill shut down. 2002 Waterfalls Guide

A 2002 guide to waterfalls in St. Lawrence County showcases some of the area's natural beauty. The 16-page, color brochure was produced for the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce as a way to boost tourism. It features eight waterfalls, each with a bit of history and directions to the sites. The guide was written and photographed by St. Lawrence University student Tim Bouchard. Healthy Living Partnership Gets Funding

Healthy Living Partnership in St. Lawrence County is getting financial help providing breast and cervical screenings to residents with little or no health insurance. The program is run by the health department and partners with local hospitals and doctors.  Go to full article

NY's Democratic Party Chair Visits Canton

State Grant Will Spur Health Care Training

A $200,000 state grant will provide job training for North Country youths while helping fill gaps in the health care industry. The money will be used for a training program for 45 students who want to become Certified Nursing Assistants. Martha Foley reports.  Go to full article
