Creating and sustaining arts connections
(03/03/10) The Director of the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts says 2009 was a great year, despite the economic downturn, and he's looking forward to another one. Stephen Svoboda grew up in Tupper Lake and taught theater arts in Miami before returning to the Adirondacks last year. Todd Moe spoke with him about his first year in Blue Mountain Lake, and looking ahead to more Shakespeare, music and making connections throughout the park.

OTTG fall production features original plays
(10/21/09) This weekend, the Our Town Theatre Group will present its fall production, the premiere of Tales from the Second Circle Motel: An evening of Original Plays. It opens at the Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek on Friday night (7:30). The production will feature thematically connected scenes by five local playwrights. Director Stephen Svoboda says the Second Circle Motel is the playwrights' metaphor for purgatory.

New director, new direction at Adk Lakes Center for the Arts

(01/20/09) This week marks the start of new leadership nationally and locally. The Adirondacks Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake has a new Executive Director. Stephen Svoboda is a professional playwright, director and educator. He's a native of Tupper Lake and returns to the Adirondacks after eight years of teaching and working with theater groups in Miami. Svoboda got his undergraduate degree in playwrighting at SUNY Plattsburgh. He told Todd Moe that he's excited about returning to the region.
