(01/25/10) We're in the time of year when political hopefuls come out of the woodwork to announce their candidacies. 2010 will be an especially active year in the North Country, with offices in Washington, Albany, and many county seats open or vulnerable. In St. Lawrence County, all 15 legislative seats are up for re-election. You'll hear more about the candidates and the issues in the coming weeks and months. But we were interested in a Canton High School senior who announced his candidacy this week, for a county legislature seat being vacated by Tedra Cobb. Our news intern, Chelsea Ross, went to the press conference. more

(03/06/09) Lake Placid teen pianist Joey Izzo wowed the crowd at the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival last month. He's 14 and balances his time between home schooling, skiing, mountain biking and music. He joined us live in the studio for music and conversation.

(11/13/06) Last Tuesday, kids across the U.S. were talking with Americans about the importance of voting. The national project was organized by journalist and writer Sue Halpern, who spends much of year in Johnsburg, in the central Adirondacks. Halpern says it was a chance for students to hear from people who see voting as a duty and a crucial part of their lives. But as Brian Mann reports, their idealism played out this year against one of the nastiest and most controversial campaigns on record.

(02/07/03) The Northern Symphonic Winds performs a benefit concert Saturday night at 7:30 in Hosmer Hall at SUNY-Potsdam. Proceeds will go toward renovating Potsdam High School's auditorium. Todd Moe talks with Adrienne Hartman, co-chair of the group, Potsdam Music Friends, and Potsdam High School choral director Tamara Madeja about the need for new audio equipment in the school.
