NY 21: GOP's Sayward backs DEM Bill Owens

One of the North Country's top Republican lawmakers says she's backing Democrat Bill Owens in the race for congress. Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward, who is stepping down at the end of this year, campaigned with Owens over the weekend.

The Democrat is facing a stiff challenge from Republican Matt Doheny, who lost narrowly to Owens two years ago. Sayward's endorsement comes as both candidates work to win over moderate voters and women who could decide the race.  Go to full article

Two thirds of New Yorkers don't want to give lawmakers a raise, poll finds

Legislators haven't had a raise since 1999, and some, led by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, have said recently that it's about time.

But a new poll finds a majority of New Yorkers don't think giving the state's top politicians a pay raise is a good idea right now. Neither do some of the North Country's representatives at the Capitol. Martha Foley has more.  Go to full article

Momentum builds for Adirondack economic zone

A movement to establish an economic zone uniting the Adirondack Park is gaining momentum and encouraging new cooperation. A new caucus of the region's Albany lawmakers has reached out beyond party lines, and the economic zone could be an early success.
