A Fair Connoisseur's Perspective

Jul 21, 2005 — We're in the thick of county fair season. The St. Lawrence County fair runs through Sunday in Gouverneur. In Lowville, the Lewis County Fair continues through Saturday. David Sommerstein stopped by Tuesday. He found fair connoisseur Russell Martel sitting under a tent behind Smokey's BBQ shack. Harvesting the Wind: Up Close to the Turbines

Jan 04, 2005 — Wind farms of huge turbines are springing up along coastlines, windy ridges and blustery farmland. Construction of one of the largest planned in the East is expected to begin this spring on the Tug Hill Plateau, where the terrain rises to catch the prevailing winds off Lake Ontario. Jul 05, 2004 — In the 1980s, low-level military flights elicited passionate reactions and often rancorous debate. It got so bad then-Governor Mario Cuomo created a joint citizen-military committee to resolve the problems. A toll-free hotline (800-228-3567) was set up for complaints and is still in operation today. Now the military is preparing a new plan for using North Country airspace.
