On Veterans day, Owens says it's time for troops to come home from Afghanistan, Iraq

(11/11/11) On this Veterans Day, the US Army is drawing down its forces in Iraq, preparing to leave the country by the end of the year.

And for the first time in a decade, policy-makers are talking about a major reduction in the number of soldiers. As many as fifty thousand troop positions could be cut in the next five years.

Brian Mann sat down yesterday to talk with Congressman Bill Owens, himself a former Air Force captain, to talk about those changes and how they might affect the military here in the North Country.

Commentary: Veterans' Day/Remembrance Sunday
(11/11/02) At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month of 1918, the world rejoiced. The most terrible war in history, the war to end all wars was over. In the United States, that day became Armistice Day and later Veterans' Day. In Canada, it's called Remembrance Day. The British mark Remembrance Sunday. Commentator Paul Willcott has been in London on several Remembrance Sundays. He describes one for us, noting how the British honor not only their own men and women who served, but all veterans, including the Americans we honor today in this country.
