Soldiers & Wives Reflect on Battle

Tenth Mountain Division soldiers who fought in Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan have begun a two week leave after returning to Fort Drum last week. Fort Drum Soldiers Welcomed Home, Decorated With Ribbons

In early March, soldiers from Fort Drum fought a pitched battle at Shah-I-Khot in Afghanistan. 8 American soldiers died in the fighting. None of those men were based in the North Country. But more than 20 Fort Drum soldiers were injured. Now, the troops who took part in Operation Anaconda are coming home. They're being welcomed by eager families - and recognized for brave service. Proud Moment at Fort Drum: Soldiers Return from Afghanistan

On Thursday, officials at Fort Drum welcomed home hundreds of soldiers who fought in Afghanistan. Brigadier General Thomas Goedkoop is an assistant commander with the 10th Mountain Division. Speaking yesterday - to the soldiers and their families - General Goedkoop described the deployment as a proud moment for the North Country.  Go to full article

Fort Drum Troops Return From Afghanistan

10th Mountain in Kosovo: Making Peace Last

More than 3000 soldiers from Fort Drum are in the last two months of their deployment in Kosovo. Their main mission is to enforce a safe and secure environment in the war-torn region.

But the soldiers are using more than weapons to keep the peace. They're providing humantarian assistance to help rebuild a damaged land from the ground up. And they're trying to bring ethnic Albanians and ethnic Serbs together to end centuries of hatred. A thousand soldiers from Fort Drum have been in Uzbekistan and Afghanistan since last fall. Military families work hard to prepare for deployments, and to live through them.
