NY fire crew battles western wildfires

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Firefighting crews from New York and four New England states are in Oregon battling numerous wildfires that have charred more than 600,000 acres.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo dispatched a 20-person firefighting crew on Friday. The team is comprised of specially-trained Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers, employees and volunteers, who will be assigned to wildfires for 14 days.  Go to full article

Why there's a burn ban for the next week

The snowy, cold early spring has quickly given way to wildfire season. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation cautions people against residential brush burning and other outdoor fires.  Go to full article

New York Forest Rangers: On The Fire Line In Wyoming

A team of New York Forest Rangers is in Wyoming, helping to fight the worst rash of wildfires in decades. Blazes burning across the West have stretched fire crews thin. Budget cuts have reduced the number of experienced firefighters. As Wyoming Public Radio's Aaron Alpern reports, New York's crew has measured up well.  Go to full article

Train Sparks Wildfire in Essex

High winds and dry weather have led to a rash of wildfires in the North Country this week. Nearly 500 acres of timber and farmland burned in the towns of Essex and Willsboro yesterday. The blaze was started by sparks thrown from a passing train. Brian Mann reports.  Go to full article
