The Tug Hill Plateau rises quickly from the Black River Valley in Lewis County. It is 2000 feet at its highest elevation. The plateau slopes down gently west to the shores of Lake Ontario. This photo looks east, with Lowville in the distance. Far beyond it, the Adirondacks are just visible.
