Jazz and Blues
March 19, 2010 | NPR· One of the great cornet players from the early jazz era was also the late husband of host Marian McPartland. Piano Jazz celebrates the legend's centennial with a special concert from the Danny Kaye Playhouse at the 2007 JVC Jazz Festival.

March 18, 2010 | WXPN· Though Heath has worked primarily as a professor at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College CUNY since the 1980's, he also continues to record and tour. Endurance, his latest album, not only demonstrates Heath's own passion and longevity — he is 83 years old! — but also the endurance of his warmly soulful bop.

March 18, 2010 | WBGO· The sky was bright last August in Newport, R.I. — but this week's artists are glowing young stars. The DownBeat Critics Poll in July 2009 named Rudresh Mahanthappa and Esperanza Spalding No. 1 Rising Stars. A few weeks later, they played the Newport Jazz Festival, recorded here.

March 17, 2010 | NPR· The jazz pianist has improvised around Beatles songs. He's written works for operatic soprano Renee Fleming. And now, with his new double album, Highway Rider, he's created a large-scale work for chamber orchestra and jazz ensemble, produced by pop artist Jon Brion.

March 13, 2010 | NPR· The pianist and singer has sold more jazz records in the U.K. than any other British artist. His latest album, The Pursuit, features original songs, jazz standards and pop covers.
