Listener Feedback: Pilot Series of Q

Post additional comments

You've been writing and calling us about the CBC's arts a culture program Q with Jian Giameshi, which we piloted last week at 1 to 2pm. Thanks for all the feedback and for being part of the audition process. It will be a while before we know if CBC decides to go forward with the show for U.S. public radio, and if so, if the show can work on NCPR. We'll keep you posted as things develop. Thanks for weighing in--your participation is very much appreciated! Q at cbc.ca

Please give serious consideration to keeping this program. The first 2 airings were articulate, interesting and intelligent.

• • •

I LOVE Jian Ghomeshi. Glad to hear NCPR will be broadcasting his
program! Sad that it will be at a time when I almost never listen to
the radio, due to work getting in the way. I might be able to catch a
smidgen here and here. I bet NCPR listeners will like the show.

• • •

Truth be known I listen to the rebroadcast of his show often in
the evening when NCPR has gone to whatever you do after 8 PM
that doesn't generally interest me. Q is a good show, to be sure.

• • •

I wonder how many others listen to it already or if this could
have some impact in keeping people from switching over to CBC?
I know quite a few folks who have NCPR and CBC as the #1 and
#2 presets and switch back and forth between them...which is
probably not news to you. Look forward to at least temporarily
hearing Gian HERE not THERE! :-)

• • •

Q is one of the main reasons that I listen to NCPR as much as I do. It is
one of the CBC's continuing (and generally failing) attempts to appeal to
younger listeners. I don't know how successful it has been in that respect,
but it certainly drives established older listeners away.

• • •

I can't believe it - this is my FAVORITE show on CBC - i am sooo pleased you are going to carry it - i hope.

• • •

As a longtime listener and supporter, I appreciate it when you try out new programs at times. Located west of Brockville, I am fortunate to be able to listen over the air to NCPR, WRVO and of course CBC 1 and 2. Since I am retired, I spend most of my time at home, with NCPR my favorite station. However, there are several shows I switch station for. I do not listen to CBC Q, and will not listen to NCPR when they have this on their program.

• • •

I love it! Another hour I can turn the radio off! Ugh, and agh. We do not need any more awful popular "culture" on public radio. Not every day, please. The one thing you could do for us is explain how so much of popular "music" can be called music. Even cows and babies can tell the difference between musical music and modern rock or whatever it is called.

• • •

Hello, I live outside Potsdam and listen to NCPR most mornings. At work, I
have NCPR on in the background, listening to On Point. Which is on at the
same time as Q on CBC - but I'd rather listen to On Point - so it will be
nice to have Q on in the afternoon.

• • •

"I think I like it". Q is good, I like the Canadian perspective.

• • •

I'm from from across the border, between Ottawa and Montreal, I love Q, hope it continues

• • •

I really likes Q --- enjoyed the story about the apple tablet, likes that it's a bit offbeat, liked story about Haiti coverage

• • •

Q seems like a good show so far. probably worth adding.

• • •

I'm writing to give you my opinion regarding Jian Gomeshi's Q program. I listen to NCPR via online streaming more than any other radio station. I could listen to Q via the CBC online stream, though I don't often pull up the CBC as much as I listen to NCPR.
If you were to make Q part of your regular programming schedule, I would hope that it would not play at 1pm, since it would edge out A Way With Words, which I have come to enjoy in the past few weeks. I believe that I would listen to Q if it were broadcast in the evening. Thanks for all the wonderful work. Keep up the great job!

• • •

The Q should replace the second hour of Tom Ashbrook. I changed stations at 10am because I can't stand his show but do recognize that others may like him. Replace his second hour, or both.

• • •

I have two words for Q - too talky.
A few more words - sounds like a Terri Gross wannabe.

• • •

I'm writing to convey my excited support for the Q pilot program you have been featuring this week. I thoroughly enjoy the style of this arts and culture program. I love the host, the content and the rhythm of the show….I would make a point to tune into Q on a daily basis.

• • •

I am so glad that you are considering adding more CBC programming. We enjoy many of the offerings presented there.

• • •

The chosen subjects for discussion on Q seem interesting, however the format of this particular program (e.g. with the edgy & pressured speech of the announcer and the brief, sound-bite presentation of those in discussion) gives a pushy and somewhat sensational feel. We listened for a while and unfortunately grew annoyed with the approach -- it sounded like a TV program with hype -- something that grew tiresome over a relatively short period. While it appears that this sensationalized approach appears to be increasingly pervasive generally, our reason for listening to NCPR is a hope to find something different.

• • •

I absolutely love it….please keep it!

• • •

I've enjoyed the Canadian pilot program "Q" you've been airing this week.
I'd most likely listen to it at 1 pm, or perhaps 2 pm

• • •

Hi, guys! I like the show "Q" a lot…thanks.

• • •

I'm a drummer, like the music, please keep Q

• • •

Would like to hear Q on Sunday

• • •

After listening to "Q" for 3 days both my wife and I really enjoy the
show. Very topical and lively plus we get a view of how Canadians view
their (at times) overbearing neighbor to the south. We endorse having the show on NCPR. As we tend to listen to NCPR more during the day than the evening a time slot between 8 AM and 5 PM would suit us the best.

• • •

I've listened to good parts of each the last 3 days. It's OK, but it does seem more or less like a "generic NPR talk show" (That's alright with me, I like NPR talk shows, I listen all time.) But I don't see any particular "hook," to this one so far. In fact I have to remind myself that I'm listening to a test run of "something new" rather than regular programming

• • •

You have my vote for Q. Refreshing entertaining and such a welcome to get our northern neighbors point of view. I particularly enjoy the frankness and candor of the Canadian radio personalities. They actually have something to say. Except for NCPR and PBS I wish that could happen here in the states. My kudos for trying it out. Book It!

• • •

I have little interest in hearing Q or any other CBC show for two reasons:
I am in Canada and can hear it anyway
I am in Canada and have rejected hearing it in favour of NPR programming

• • •

I am glad you are airing Q…now I do not have to spin the dial to go to CBC.
I can now leave my tuner set to NCPR all day. I really hope you decide to
keep airing Q. I like the 1:00 time slot just fine.

• • •

Keep the show. Because it's live and every day, it is less polished than the boutique shows-Way with Words, The Best of our Knowledge, etc-that usually occupy the 1pm spot. The problem with those shows is that they require so much post-production that there aren't enough of them. They're good, but hearing them for a third time is no fun. Also, Toronto is practically a must-stop destination for anyone-musicians, authors, etc-touring the country, so they always get good guests. Gomeshi is pretty good and getting better.

• • •

I REALLY like the new Q show- just what ncpr needs- interesting
and trendy without being gossipy- I hope it's a go!

• • •

It isn't that I don't like Q-I do: I work an evening shift and I listen to it on my way home at night. That is itself a repeat of the morning program. So, although it is an interesting program, it is already on twice a day on CBC.

• • •

This is a terrible program. I hope you replace it with something from NPR.

• • •

Love it
Keep it on.

• • •

Just a quick vote for picking up Jian Giameshi's Q permanently: informative, entertaining, wide-ranging.

• • •

can take it or leave it, "not my taste", but I love The Story because they are memorable stories…while Q is about the "now" generation and pop culture

• • •

I likes it very much, I loves 1pm timeslot, the Canadian perspective, good topics and guests

• • •

Q is done very professionally, thinks Jian is professional and comfortable as a host, I encourage you to air it, early afternoon or evening would be fine

• • •

Last Monday I listened to "Q" with great reluctance, since it was displacing
even if only for a week, and experimentally -- one of my all-time-favorite programs, "A Way with Words". As it turned out, I was captivated, and increasingly engrossed as the week went on. The diversity of subject matter that Jian Ghomeshi explores, and his perceptive, engaging questions, are both refreshing and stimulating. If the CBC does decide to produce "Q" for the American market as well as the Canadian, I would love to hear the program whenever possible.

• • •

Many, many thanks for introducing us to this lively, intelligent, provocative hour of exploration and analysis!

• • •

I liked it more than I thought I would, I like having access to Canadian culture, maybe a condensed one a week format would be fine

• • •

it doesn't make me jump out of my seat…I love your other 1pm shows, but don't like Gameshi's voice...

• • •

would like it once a week

• • •

I have listened to the program for the last 3 days and it is fantastic. The range and variety of subjects are a great addition to the ncpr programming schedule. The time slot following Fresh Air is a perfect fit. Please make it a permanent part of your programming schedule.

• • •

Sorry, but not too excited about Q - IMHO, just a bit too mundane.

• • •

I like the program, when I lived in Clayton I listened to it on the CBC. The only question is where to put it?

• • •

I have heard two of the Q shows, and I like it. I am looking forward to the interview with Leonard Cohen tomorrow.

• • •

Listened to parts of two shows, and enjoyed.

• • •

Re. Q. . It's OK. I guess there is more emphasis on showbiz personality interviews than I prefer, but the quality of the guests is good & the host is interesting. Serious information gets a little tiresome after a while, even for me. I also like the Canadian-ness of it.

• • •

Q is a welcome, pleasant surprise...thank you very much

• • •

At first I wasn't that excited about the show, but there have been some interesting guests. And I like the Canadian perspective. If you're going to run it as a daily (which it is, of course) then I'm not sure what time slot you'd use.

• • •

not so much

• • •

Yes, yes, yes. I am a Canadian but spend a lot of time in Vermont and miss my "Q"

• • •

About "Q" - To my ears, it's a perfectly good show but not compelling enough to warrant 5 hours per week (?). It might be too Canada-centric for a US audience.

• • •

…really liked it, love the variety, liked Roseanne Cash and Leonard Cohen, used to listen to CBC and I think they have a lot of high quality shows, can't get CBC now and would like to hear Q on NCPR

• • •

Just a few comments on Q….I really enjoyed the program this week. It could be a great addition to the lineup at NCPR. I particularly enjoyed the freshness, a bit of a younger edge than some of the programs, mixed with some serious topics too.

• • •

My wife and I don't like it; the music doesn't do a thing for us

• • •

I listened to about 3 1/2 hours of Q this week. There is not one of your current programs that I would like to have replaced by Q.

• • •

I love the Canadian program Q - please continue to carry it!

• • •

I liked it, and I think it fits in well with the afternoon programming. The problem is -- what would it replace?
