(Jun 18, 2004) There's more than a year left before a controversial federal milk program expires. But Northeast lawmakers are already pressing their Midwestern counterparts to support a new version. Representatives like Congressman John McHugh and US Senator Charles Schumer hope to replace the current Milk Income Loss Contract or MILC program, which expires next year, with the National Dairy Equity Act. In an interview yesterday, Schumer said the legislation probably won’t pass in the next few months, but there is gaining support for it across the nation.

(Jun 3, 2004) Creating a website may be one of the best ways to showcase what a region or community has to offer. But a team of researchers at SUNY Plattsburgh has published a study showing that many North Country communities aren’t taking advantage of the Internet. Jody Tosti spoke with one of the members of the Community Web Visibility project about how important a good website can be for tourism and economic development.
Project Targets Underage Drinkers' Suppliers

(May 14, 2004) A local campaign against underage drinking begins today in St. Lawrence County. "Project Sticker Shock" targets adults who may be tempted to buy alcohol for minors. About 140 students will begin the sticker campaign today at grocery and convenience stores and alcohol retailers across the county. Ruth Fishbeck runs the St. Lawrence County Health Initiative. The idea, she says, is to place bright green warning stickers on packs of beer and wine coolers that list the penalties for providing underage drinkers with alcohol.
A Federal Court is Proposed for Plattsburgh

(May 13, 2004) Plattsburgh may soon be home to a new Federal Court. Increased border patrol, as part of the nation’s Homeland Security efforts, has lead to a greater caseload in the Northern District. And, as Jody Tosti reports, making space for a federal court in Clinton County will help minimize an already burdened federal courthouse in Albany.
