NCPR Reading Service for the Print-Impaired

Program Schedule

Hear local and regional newspapers, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Reader's Digest, Rolling Stone, and many other national and topical publications read aloud.

North Country Public Radio’s Reading Service provides specialized audio programs for individuals with visual, physical, or learning disabilities who are unable to read standard printed material. The service offers readings of various national newspapers and magazines. North Country Public Radio distributes specially-tuned receivers to qualified individuals, so they can access the new service, which is broadcast on the station’s subcarrier.

We work with the North Country Association for the Visually Impaired, the New York State Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and other organizations to get the word out about our new service. A dedicated Reading Service broadcast room has been equipped and special receivers are available, thanks to a grant from the Alcoa Foundation. The service is offered in St. Lawrence County, Frankln County and the Tri-Lakes Region. There are a limited number of receivers available, so distribution is on a first-come first-served basis.
