Tupper Lake lumberjack victim of suspected arson

(Mar 30, 2007) The carved figure of a lumberjack standing by Tupper Lake's village park caught fire in the early morning of Thursday, March 29. Police suspect vandals and Chief Tom Fee says it’s an insult to Tupper Lake – one he takes personally. Putting a dollar amount on the damage is hard, he says, because the lumberjack was so unique.
Adirondack church fire an act of "intolerance"

(Nov 22, 2006) Police say a church fire in the Adirondack village of Pottserville last May was an act of religious intolerance. According to the Warren County Sheriff's office, 20-year-old Caleb Uriah Lussier confessed to burning the church. Lussier is a student at the Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake. Investigators say he believed that the Episcopal church had deviated from the true teachings of the Bible. As Brian Mann reports, Lussier may have been involved in another church fire in his hometown.
Arson Burns Historic Adirondack Church

(Jun 6, 2006) The Warren County Sheriff's Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say a fire that destroyed the Episcopal church in Pottersville was arson. The church burned last Tuesday, triggering a full-scale investigation. Federal agents have interviewed more than 75 people. They're offering a $5000 reward for information. The fire followed two burglaries and other acts of vandalism in mid-May. On Sunday, Episcopal Bishop Daniel Herzog held a service and a ceremony of healing in Pottersville. The church had a small congregation, with fewer than 20 members. Brian Mann spoke with John Watson, who has served as church warden at the Episcopal church for more than 30 years.
Mohawk Arson Probe Still Searching

(Mar 19, 2004) State and tribal police are baffled over an unprecedented arson spree on the Akwesasne Mohawk reservation near Massena. Since October 2002, suspicious blazes have consumed more than 70 abandoned buildings, the latest on January 1st. Several cars have been burnt since then. The Mohawk territory spans the international border and the St. Lawrence River. Police say those boundaries have impeded the search for suspects. David Sommerstein spoke with Charles Bishop, the New York State Police investigator in Massena who’s heading the investigation.

(Sep 16, 2003) Since last year, the Akwesasne Mohawk reservation that straddles the U.S.-Canada border near Massena has been plagued by a rash of suspicious fires. No one has been injured, but dozens of buildings have been torched, some several times. New York state police, Ontario provincial police, and tribal police are investigating the incidents. David Sommerstein talked with Frank Lacerenza, chief of the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department. He says the arsonists haven’t restricted their acts to one part of the reservation.
