(Aug 31, 2012) When Tropical Storm Irene hit the Adirondacks one year ago, state transportation crews and private contractors worked around the clock for nearly two weeks to repair damaged roads and washed out bridges in hard hit areas like Keene, Jay and AuSable Forks. All of those involved say the response to the disaster was unprecedented.
(Aug 30, 2011) The adding-up of the damage from Irene continues, and many areas are still experiencing emergency situations. In New York state, there are at least 6 confirmed deaths; damage to homes and businesses; more than half a million still without power; and flooding that’s threatening to cause more damage. For the first time today, our Adirondack bureau chief Brian Mann was able to hit some of the hardest hit areas around Ausable Forks, Jay and Upper Jay. He spoke with Nora Flaherty.

(Mar 16, 2007) Local officials watched nervously Monday across the North Country as rivers rose with early spring rain and melting snow. Ice dams were the big worry. A bottleneck of ice on the Great Chazy River forced residents to evacuate neighborhoods in Champlain. Another dam on the Ausable River triggered flooding in the town of Jay, where a state of emergency was declared. Brian Mann was in the village of Ausable Forks yesterday when crews fought to dislodge one of the massive clots of ice. He sent this report.
