(Nov 28, 2012) There's snow on the ground in the Adirondacks. The winter tourism industry in the region is hoping to bounce back this season after last year's disastrously warm weather. But winter tourism in the region faces some big challenges going forward, including questions about climate change and competition from big venues and destinations in New Hampshire and Vermont. Ted Blazer is head of the state-run Olympic Regional Development Authority, which is headquartered in Lake Placid. Much of the future of winter tourism in the region depends on him.
(Jun 6, 2008) The Olympic Regional Development Authority says bids for construction of the new Conference Center at Lake Placid exceeded the project’s budget by more than $13 million. That means the project, which was already behind schedule, has been put on hold until the Olympic Authority can find ways to cut costs or secure more funding. Chris Knight reports.
(Dec 27, 2007) Last winter, ski resorts in New York and Vermont were hammered by rain and unseasonably warm temperatures that lasted well into January. What a difference a year makes. This holiday season, ski centers have been blessed with big dumps of powder. As Brian Mann reports, all the glorious snow translates into big crowds of tourists.
State Audit Slams ORDA Board For Lax Oversight

(Jan 28, 2005) New York's comptroller released an audit yesterday slamming the Olympic Regional Development Authority. ORDA manages Olympic Venues in Lake Placid and also operates ski centers at Whiteface and Gore Mountain. According to the report, ORDA suffers from weak oversight from the organization's board of directors. The audit also described lax procedures for accounting and for bidding out lucrative contracts. As Brian Mann reports, the audit comes at a time when ORDA is being sued over a food service contract worth millions of dollars.
