Bipartisan group says campaign finance reform good for democracy

(Feb 17, 2012) A new bipartisan group is endorsing Governor Andrew Cuomo’s call for a change in the way New York State politicians finance their campaigns. The group—NY Lead—includes some big names in business, like David Rockefeller and George Soros’s son Jonathan Soros…and former elected officials from the democratic and republican parties. NY Lead is pushing for a public financing system, which it says will encourage candidates to fund their campaigns by getting lots of small donations. It’s also calling for lower limits on individual and business contributions.
Vermonters protest Citizens United, call for constitutional amendment

(Jan 23, 2012) Saturday marked the two-year anniversary of the supreme court Citizens United decision. The court voted 5-4, saying that corporations have the same protected speech rights as people, including the right to make unlimited financial contributions to groups who want to influence elections. That's upsetting to a lot of Vermonters. And as Sarah Harris reports, they're working to change it.
