(Jan 15, 2010) A state report says the international bridge between Ogdenbsurg and Prescott, Ontario is in “urgent need” of repair. The bridge over the St. Lawrence River rates 4.3, or “partially deficient”, on a 7-point scale used by the Department of Transportation. The report by Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli warns closing the bridge would cost the region millions of dollars in commerce and tourism. Local officials say they welcome the attention of the Comptroller’s report. They hope it’ll attract the $75 million needed to repair the 50-year-old span. David Sommerstein reports.
(Dec 4, 2009) Today and tomorrow, Saranac Lake artists will welcome visitors to check out their studios and galleries during the first Holiday Art Walk. Todd Moe talks with artist Georgeanne Gaffney about exploring art in downtown Saranac Lake this weekend. The regular "3rd Thursday" Art Walks have been going on in the village for over 10 years. Gaffney says the idea for a winter version was inspired by “Saranac Lake Art Works”, a collaboration of artists dedicated to the community and art. Ruby Sprowls, with the Northern Adirondack Trading Cooperative, and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County's Molly Ames stopped by to show Todd Moe some examples of local success stories.
Getting ready for digital TV

(Jun 3, 2008) Digital TV is coming early next year even for folks with rabbit ears and rooftop antennas. On February 17, 2009, television networks will turn off their analog broadcasts and switch to digital. Experts say viewers can expect clearer pictures, better sound and more channel choices. If you have a TV not connected to a cable or satellite service, it will need a converter box. Todd Sedmak, a spokesman for the TV Converter Box Coupon Program, through the Commerce Department, explains. For more info: 1-888-388-2009.
(Aug 28, 2007) You never really know what the North Country's big events of the summer will be. This year, hands down, the attention grabbers were a couple of big auctions. Fox Island, near Cape Vincent, sold over the weekend for $3.78 million to New Jersey resident Vance Wilson. In Tupper Lake, more than four hundred buyers turned out for the sale of antiques and other treasures from Follensby Park, one of the Adirondacks' most extravagant, private great camps. Brian Mann joined the crowd on Saturday and sent this audio postcard.
