(Feb 5, 2013) The Adirondack Park's largest environmental group is blasting state officials for losing a $2.5 million Federal grant. The money would have helped to purchase Follensby Pond, a 14,000 acre tract of wild timberland near Tupper Lake. Adirondack Council spokesman John Sheehan says the state failed to come up with matching funds for the project. "It's not so big a surprise. It is a disappointment and it's one we hope the state can recover from in the near future," Sheehan said. The Environmental Protection Fund is used by New York to buy land for open space protection. Some green groups say Governor Cuomo has spent too much of the money on other projects.
