They've got talent: It's spring musical season

(Mar 7, 2013) The spring musical season kicks off this weekend at a number of high schools in the North Country. It's a busy time back stage and on stage with final rehearsals amid wet paint. In one school district the students are having — literally — a sweet time. The musical, Willy Wonka, opens Friday night at St. Lawrence Central High School in Brasher Falls. Special effects include airborne actors and chocolate-scented fog. Even though most schools are struggling with being able to afford extracurricular activities, like music and theater, that hasn't dampened the enthusiasm among students, staff and parents. Todd Moe stopped by the final dress rehearsal for Willy Wonka Wednesday afternoon in Brasher Falls and found lots of school spirit.
(Feb 19, 2013) Artwork from middle and high school students around St. Lawrence County is on display this week at the Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg. The 16th annual middle and high school art exhibit continues through Sunday in the Richard E. Winter Gallery.Todd Moe stopped by for a tour with curator Laura Foster, who says the annual show allows the museum to showcase the creative process happening in arts programs at local public schools. There's also art on display created by home schooled students who use the Remington for art classes.
Owens lauds international program at Newcomb graduation

(Jun 27, 2012) The Newcomb Central School District in the Adirondacks celebrated a big milestone this week. It boosted its enrollment to 101 students. That may not seem like a lot, but considering the school had only 55 students five years ago, topping 100 is a big deal. The turnaround began after Superintendent Skip Hults began accepting foreign exchange students. These students get a uniquely Adirondack education, the locals get more diversity and Newcomb Central fills classrooms. The program caught the attention of Congressman Bill Owens, who was the commencement speaker at Newcomb on Saturday, June 23. Andy Flynn has our story.
