A house made of straw

(Oct 5, 2009) The big bad wolf gave straw houses a pretty bad reputation. But it turns out straw bale houses are incredibly strong and energy efficient. The century-old building material is making a comeback as an eco-friendly choice for modern home construction. And these homeowners aren't afraid of a little wind. One woman is even building a straw bale house in the sometimes cold, blustery climate of the east. Joyce Kryszak tells us her story.
Legislation to make more efficient homes

(Aug 4, 2009) This session of Congress has pledged to take on the issue of climate change. A bill in the Senate is already awaiting action. But the House has already passed the sweeping Clean Energy And Security Act. One piece of that bill could change the way homes are built in this country. In short, they'd use a lot less energy, but cost is a concern. Tamara Keith has more.
Counties plan to sue Adirondack Park Agency, more suits likely

(Dec 3, 2008) At least four North Country counties are planning to sue the Adirondack Park Agency. At issue are new shoreline restrictions approved last month. The rules limit construction and expansion of waterfront homes without an APA variance. As Brian Mann reports, local leaders say political changes in Albany will mean more lawsuits against state agencies.
Environmental Group Opposes Tupper Resort

(Nov 3, 2005) A pro-environment group has stepped up as the first major organization to oppose the Adirondack Club development in Tupper Lake. The Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks says large-scale resort developments like the Big Tupper project could splinter private land that has long been used for logging and wildlife habitat. Environmental groups have also raised questions about proposed large-scale developments in Jay, Old Forge, and North Creek. The association's Dan Plumley spoke yesterday with Brian Mann.
(Aug 15, 2005) The Adirondack Park Agency moved a step closer on Friday to forcing the removal of a controversial mansion in Lake Placid.
(Jan 15, 2003) The real estate market in parts of the North Country saw significant growth in 2002. Prices for single family homes also rose. David Sommerstein reports low interest rates and the stagnant stock market have been enticing people to buy new homes.
