Local supporters on the road to defend Canton College

(Nov 22, 2011) A busload of Canton college is heading to New York City this morning – to defend their local SUNY campus at the meeting of the state university’s Trustees. SUNY Central has proposed merging some college presidencies around the state, to save money on administrative costs, and funnel more to academics. SUNY canton and SUNY Potsdam were on the list. Canton Town Supervisor David Button says the two schools are too different, and Canton should be able to hire a president that represents its own interests.
SUNY Provost threatens to rescind Kennedy job offer

(Sep 12, 2011) In a letter to SUNY Canton president Joe Kennedy obtained by the Watertown Daily Times, SUNY Provost David Lavallee has said he is considering rescinding the agreement that allows Kennedy to stay on in that position until the end of the academic year. Under that deal, Kennedy would move after this year to a new position as special advisor to the chancellor. He’d work with Chancellor Nancy Zimpher on the Campus alliance networks initiative, figuring out ways to share administrative functions among SUNY campuses.
