Upset brewing in Assembly race?

(Oct 15, 2010) This is expected to be a big year for Republicans. But Democrats appear to have a very real shot at capturing the 114th Assembly seat that represents Clinton and Franklin counties. The district has been a GOP stronghold for generations. But this year, Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, a Republican, is locked in a bitter contest with Conservative candidate David Kimmel. Their divisive battle could leave an opening for Democrat Rudy Johnston. All three candidates held a debate last night in Saranac Lake. Brian Mann was there and has our story.
Plattsburgh women cap champ season, St. Lawrence Saints fall short

(Mar 19, 2007) This weekend was the best of times and the worst of times for North Country hockey fans. The Plattsburgh State women's Cardinals won the Division 3 NCAA tournament on their home ice at Stafford Arena. They beat Middlebury two goals to one to cap an undefeated season. The story wasn't so bright for St. Lawrence University. On Friday afternoon, the men's and the women's teams were playing at the exact same time with the exact same results. The men's Saint's lost four goals to zero in an upset loss to Quinnippiac at the ECAC tournament in Albany. They went on to beat Darmouth for third place. The women's Saints also lost four goals to zero, facing the Wisconsin Badgers in the semifinals at the Frozen Four tournament in Lake Placid. That defeat that eliminated them from the tournament. As Brian Mann reports, the powerhouse Wisconsin team went on to claim the national championship for a second year in a row.
(Dec 18, 2006) The Democrat who twice failed to defeat Republican Congressman John McHugh says it’s “highly unlikely” he’s run again. Dr. Bob Johnson says a successful candidate would have to win organized labor’s support and raise more money. David Sommerstein reports.
(Oct 26, 2006) Congressman John McHugh and Democratic challenger Robert Johnson sparred often in a debate at Massena town hall last night. The candidates for the 23rd district disagreed on health care funding, stem cell research, and the Bush Administration tax cuts. But as David Sommerstein reports, the biggest differences were over the war in Iraq and other foreign policy.
Dr. Bob Johnson takes on McHugh, political system

(Sep 26, 2006) Dr. Bob Johnson is a Watertown-area doctor who’s taken on a tremendous challenge. For the second straight time, he’s the Democrat trying to unseat well-entrenched Republican Congressman John McHugh in the 23rd District. The advantages of incumbency are many – name recognition, pork barrel spending, and lots of endorsements are just a few. Johnson is painting McHugh as a rubber stamp for the Bush Administration who’s out of touch with his district. As David Sommerstein reports, Johnson’s also taking on the political system as a whole.
