Heard Up North: mittens for a winter’s work

(Dec 15, 2010) Sometimes our stories and conversations kindle memories from listeners. Andy Flynn's "Adirondack Attic" segment this month about a pair of vintage mittens at the Adirondack Museum inspired a phone call from Milda Burns, a longtime listener and local historian in North River. For today’s Heard Up North, Milda recounts how her father learned a valuable lesson as a young woodsman in the southern Adirondacks in the 1880s.
Adirondack Attic: vintage mittens

(Dec 7, 2010) Our series, the Adirondack Attic, with Andy Flynn continues. You may know Andy from his series of "Adirondack Attic" books on local history. He uses the objects people make, use and leave behind to tell stories about the life and times of the region. NCPR is collaborating with Andy and his sources at the Adirondack Museum and other historical associations and museums in the region to bring these stories to air. Today, we hear the story of vintage hand knitted mittens from Bakers Mills in Warren County.
