<description><![CDATA[ (Mar 28, 2013) An artist and a scientist will unveil a new exhibit Saturday afternoon at the Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek.  AntARTica includes works by artist Laura Von Rosk and cell biologist Sam Bowser.   The exhibit will include Von Rosk&apos;s landscape paintings and Bowser&apos;s watercolor paintings of tiny, single-celled organisms called Foraminifera that live under the ice.  The two were part of a team of biologists and artists that traveled to antarctica in 2011. Todd Moe spoke with Bowser and Von Rosk about how artists and scientists can inspire each other and collaborate on projects. <description><![CDATA[ (Jan 1, 2013) We&apos;ll take a break from the cold and snow and listen as Adirondack teacher and rafter Becky Pelton talks about a recent trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.   Pelton is Long Lake Central School&apos;s speech pathologist.  She and her husband, Nate, also run the North Creek Rafting Company.  They are avid rafters and paddlers.  She kept a journal and blogged during the trip and will share photos and videos with Long Lake students and the community later this year.Becky and Nate joined six friends on a 280-mile journey down the Colorado in late November and early December.  Todd Moe spoke with Becky about the trip, which she described as a three-week trek at the bottom of the &quot;Big Ditch&quot;, with lots of red sand, Great Blue Herons and rough rapids. <description><![CDATA[ (Oct 12, 2012) North Creek&apos;s community theater troupe is prepping for its fall production of Dancing at Lughnasa.  The play, set in Ireland in the 1930&apos;s, opens Friday, October 19th at Tannery Pond Community Center.   It&apos;s a memory play loosely based on the lives of playwright Brian Friel&apos;s mother and aunts who lived on the west coast of Donegal. Set in the summer of 1936, the play depicts the late summer days when love briefly seems possible for three of the Mundy sisters and the family welcomes home the frail elder brother, who has returned from a life as missionary in Africa.Our Town Theatre Group director Colleen Potter tells Todd Moe that the play won a Tony Award for Best Play.  She says it&apos;s a show she has been eager to bring to the region. After a decade of operating with a volunteer Board of Directors, the center will also have its first paid executive director starting on July 1. The center is owned and maintained by the town of Johnsburg.Town officials and board members at the Tannery Pond Community Center Association say it’s time the building becomes self-sufficient. And they want the center to play a bigger role in the North Creek economy. Andy Flynn sat down with the new director and has this profile.
