Balance of state tax revenue tips in upstate's favor

(Dec 23, 2011) A new report out from SUNY Albany's Rockefeller Institute of Government finds that upstate New Yorkers get a lot more than they give when it comes to the state taxes. The report is called "Giving and Getting" and examines state receipts and expenditures from the 2009-2010 fiscal year. The findings show that the state government is redistributing wealth from New York City, to poorer parts of upstate. Martha Foley has more.
(Dec 6, 2011) A new geodesic dome is attracting renewed attention to the Occupy Buffalo encampment. The donated structure will act as a warming station over the winter, or until the occupiers are evicted. As the Innovation Trail’s Daniel Robison reports, occupiers see it as a symbol of their commitment to stay put in Niagara Square.
(Dec 2, 2011) The Occupy Wall Street movement is facing twin threats: growing impatience with the protestors' tent cities from local officials, and winter. The Innovation Trail checked in with Occupy movements across New York to see how they're fairing. We begin in Albany, where Marie Cusick reports that protestors are determined to voice their frustrations with the state of the economy, and the state of New York.
(Nov 29, 2011) Protesters at the Occupy Albany encampment say they will no longer provoke nightly arrests by the New York State police. But they say they’ll continue to focus on state policy issues, like their opposition to the expiration of a tax on millionaires, set to expire at the end of the year. In Albany, Karen DeWitt reports.
(Nov 16, 2011) New York's police commissioner Tuesday defended how officers handled themselves in the mass eviction early that morning, from the Occupy Wall Street encampment in Zuccotti Park. Ray Kelly says the police arrested about 200 people in the sweep, including dozens who tried to resist eviction by linking arms in a tight circle at the center of the park. Arrests also included one city councilman and several journalists. Meanwhile, a new poll finds many New Yorkers are supportive of the Occupy movement, and a majority believe that they should be allowed to remain in the parks 24 hours a day.
