Sen. Little faces changed political climate

(Nov 9, 2012) State Senator Betty Little ran unopposed this week and will once again represent a big chunk of the North Country in the state legislature. But she returns to office in a changed political landscape. Her district has changed, absorbing a new chunk of St. Lawrence County. Her Republican Party also took major hits this week, losing the North Country's House seat and possibly possibly losing its long-standing majority in the state Senate.
(Apr 13, 2012) The race to fill Teresa Sayward's Assembly seat has narrowed to just two candidates, former Glens Falls Mayor Robert Regan and Queensbury supervisor Dan Stec, both Republicans. Stec has taken an early lead in the contest for the 114th District, building a strong list of endorsements, including the nod from Sayward and from most Republican and Conservative Party leaders.Stec spoke this week with Brian Mann about the challenges he will face if elected, representing a district that now stretches from Glens Falls to Saranac Lake. Stec says his experience in localgovernment gives him a head-start on understanding the issues.Editor's Note: In the days ahead, we will speak with the other Republican candidate in the race, former Glens Falls Mayor Robert Regan. So far, Democrats haven't found a candidate to run for the seat.
State Senate mired in politics, wrestles with budget & gay marriage

(Dec 2, 2009) Last night’s confusion in the state Senate caps an ugly year for the institution. First a Republican coup toppled the new Democratic majority back in June, leading to weeks of gridlock. Then Federal prosecutors charged former Republican majority leader Joe Bruno with corruption. Now, the Senate has grappled clumsily with the state’s budget crisis. Brian Mann checked in yesterday with North Country Senator Betty Little, a Republican from Queensbury.
Conference Committee Considers State Budget

(Mar 15, 2005) The state Assembly and Senate will convene a joint conference committee this morning to work on the state budget. The Republican-led Senate began passing budget bills yesterday. The Senate measures lacked the agreement of the Democrat-controlled state Assembly, but the move was considered necessary to get the two chambers working through a conference committee to resolve differences. Republican state senator Betty Little, of Queensbury, says the Senate is moving forward on what she calls a "good budget".
