(Sep 27, 2012) Governor Cuomo has crossed party lines and offered a political endorsement to Republican Senator Roy McDonald, who lost a primary this month after voting to support same-sex marriage. In a letter released by his staff, Cuomo tells state Sen. McDonald that it's "evident" McDonald "paid a price" for his convictions when the senator agreed to be one of four Republican votes needed to pass New York's same-sex marriage bill. The governor laments what he says is the "disproportionate power of the political extremists," and writes to McDonald "you should not be left to stand alone now." [full story]

Senate Dems walk out over redistricting

(Mar 16, 2012) Seven casinos, a cut in one of the biggest government costs facing taxpayers, more convictions of career criminals and a far more promising outlook for Republicans are results of the wheeling and dealing that ended early yesterday morning in Albany. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is declaring victory. His Republican allies in the Senate, who faced oblivion just two years ago, scored major wins to give the party a powerful, longer life in the increasingly blue state. The all-night session of the legislature left bitter feelings between Democrats and Republicans in the Senate, after Democrats stormed out in protest over the middle of the night redistricting vote. Martha Foley has more. [full story]

(Feb 9, 2012) Kellie Greene has tossed her hat into the mix of candidates seeking to defeat U.S. Rep. Bill Owens in the upcoming congressional election. The Sackets Harbor woman describes herself as a “true” constitutional conservative. She says she’s been sitting on the sidelines long enough and is ready to make a go of it.Greene formally announced her candidacy during an event in Watertown last week. She’s challenging businessman Matt Doheny, a former Wall Street financier, for the Republican and Conservative party lines. A primary has been set for June 26. Chris Morris has more on the candidate.
