As Barack Obama takes the oath of office, hundreds of millions of people around the world will be glued to radios, TVs and computers to hear his inaugural speech. NPR political editor Ken Rudin talked with Jonathan Brown about what he'll be listening for.
(Nov 3, 2008) In this election year, the youth vote has become a key demographic, targeted by both major party’s presidential campaigns. Some political pundits question whether the 18-24 age group will break with the past and vote in large numbers. The Franklin Academy High School in Malone is trying to spark interest in the presidential race by staging a mock debate and presidential election. Jonathan Brown talked with the students playing the candidates.
(Oct 20, 2008) Just over two weeks remain until Americans go to the polls to choose a new president. We’ll also decide the shape of Congress and vote for state and local offices. The economic turmoil has added urgency to the election – it’s also changed the messages of the candidates, and, perhaps, the progress of their campaigns. Brian Mann has been following the election season closely and blogging about politics on our website. He talks with Martha Foley.
(Sep 24, 2008) NEW YORK (AP) Republican John McCain says he's directing his staff to work with Barack Obama's campaign and the debate commission to delay Friday's debate because of the economic crisis. McCain issued a statement saying he'll stop campaigning after addressing former President Bill Clinton's Global Initiative session on Thursday and return to Washington to focus on the nation's financial problems. McCain also said he wants President Bush to convene a leadership meeting in Washington. Both he and Obama would attend the session.
(Sep 5, 2008) The Democratic and Republican National Conventions have delivered more drama than expected this year. Our correspondent Karen DeWitt is attending both. She's in St. Paul talking with state delegates. She says New York's Republicans, like many of the party faithful, loved VP nominee Sarah Palin's speech Wednesday night.
(Sep 5, 2008) Former New York Senate leader Joseph Bruno energized the New York delegation yesterday with a warning to the national party that likened Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama to disgraced former Gov.
