This weekend in the Adirondacks

John Warren from the Adirondack Almanack looks at outdoor recreation conditions around the Adirondacks for the Memorial Day Weekend.

Scattered showers and the possibility of an afternoon thunderstorm this weekend will keep trails wet and muddy and may raise the levels of rivers and streams after rain events so that some crossings may not be accessible.

Expect to encounter increased visitors to trails and trail head parking areas, campgrounds, and on the region's waters, so seek backcountry recreation opportunities in less-visited areas of the Adirondack Park.  Go to full article

Storms damage rural towns in eastern New York

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) The National Weather Service says investigators will examine storm damage in rural Schenectady County to determine if it was caused by a tornado or straight-line winds.

A tornado warning was in effect at the time, based on radar images.  Go to full article

This weekend in the Adirondacks

John Warren from the Adirondack Almanack looks at outdoor recreation conditions around the Adirondacks each weekend.

Rain through Sunday morning will exacerbate our already wet and muddy trail conditions and raise the levels of rivers and streams so that some crossing may not be accessible and trails near waterways may be flooded on Sunday morning before skies clear and winds - which are expected to be 10-15 miles per hour Friday and Saturday - begin to calm. Rains are expected to be heaviest on south and southestern slopes.  Go to full article

Roads in Finger Lakes region closed by flooding

PENN YAN, N.Y. (AP) Severe storms that dumped up to five inches of rain have forced evacuations and closed roads in the Finger Lakes region.
