How wintry will this winter be? Get your first forecast

As we head into the second week of August, it may seem a little too soon to start thinking about winter and the weather it may bring.

But the National Weather service is already developing early models designed to give some sense of snow and temperature conditions.

The very, very long-term forecast for this winter is for moderate to light snow and warm-ups that could mean a lighter snow pack in the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains.  Go to full article

Wetter weather this week has lowered the fire danger and brought the region's rivers and streams to well above normal for this time of year and contributed to muddy and wet areas on some trails, especially low-lying areas, and in the Western Adirondacks which has in general seen more rain over the past two weeks.  Go to full article

Weather Service confirms North Creek tornado

NORTH CREEK, N.Y. (AP) The National Weather Service has confirmed that a fourth tornado touched down in upstate New York during severe storms that killed four people.

Meteorologists say the twister touched down around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday in the hamlet of North Creek, in the Adirondacks 70 miles north of Albany. The tornado was rated EF-0 with wind speeds of 85 mph.  Go to full article
