A Winter Without Snow

Despite the cold, there's little snow on the ground in much of the North Country. The Olympic Regional Development Authority has rescheduled the Lake Placid Loppet, an annual 50 km cross-country ski race, due to lack of snow. Harvesting the Wind: Up Close to the Turbines

Wind farms of huge turbines are springing up along coastlines, windy ridges and blustery farmland. Construction of one of the largest planned in the East is expected to begin this spring on the Tug Hill Plateau, where the terrain rises to catch the prevailing winds off Lake Ontario. Most of us will only see the huge turbines from a distance.
